Hey All - Would love to connect My name is Nick, I'm a flood engineer and entrepreneur. After years of working in the flood sector it's easy to see that flooding is about to get a whole lot worse in the coming 100 years. Climate change has already started to affect old flooding plains creating new ones where people are not prepared or ready!
I'm setting up CFlood to ensure everyone, everywhere can easily access flood predictions. Without knowing what is coming how can we prepare for it? The flood data is there but the connection is not.
We need a helping hand to connect in with you and your community to get feedback on it. If the need is there we can then get building before its too late.
Always happy to help and chat - nick@cflood.com
Many thanks!
Nick
Welcome to the FORUM. It is amazing to see the very interesting projects from Ireland on this forum. @Lizzy Hayashida , @Conor Leen, @Will Ben Sims and @Pierce Dargan were posting about their great initiatives and CFlood sounds also very interesting and extremely useful!
@Zsolt Bugarszki my deepest apologies for the incredibly slow reply! Thanks for the intro! I'll link in with them!
Hi Nick, welcome to the forum! Do you already have a source to get your flood data? Would you handle the predictions? I’d love to see this app being used in Real Estate purchase.
Hey @Ashley Misleh | Marketing thanks for the message and apologies for the slow reply! Yes real estate purchases is an area we would love to tap into. What we are seeing is that we actually have to educate the customer as it's not as simple as "heres where it will flood". Are you in this area?
Welcome to the Forum Nick! Great to be growing our SEIP Ireland community. I think there are a number of ways your system could be used and is solving such a critical need! I hope that some of our international mentors will be able to help introduce you to the right people from a number of different countries!
Thanks Pierce!
Welcome to the forum Nick! This is such an important issue that needs to be addressed. Let us know how we can help - hopefully the members will be able to connect you with the right people to help!
Hey @Lizzy Hayashida thanks and I'll be sure to reach out when we're stuck! If there is anything I can help you or anyone else with please just shout.

Welcome to the Forum Nick, I know in Singapore, we have in many decades studying flood mitigation measures (pls see https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/commentary/what-singapore-can-do-to-prepare-for-the-next-flood-11093978) Most importantly our water story underscores the value of preparedness. I'm very curious about your CFLOOD
Many thanks @Jodee and apologies for my incredibly slow reply! Yes Singapore does have some issues but in general you are way ahead of the curve. We are taking the very simple approach to create innovate ways to allow engineers communicate with the vulnerable communities. Lets be honest, us engineers are pretty poor at making things easy to understand so thats why we are developing CFlood. If people understand the data/predictions then they can mitigate the danger. What do you see as the biggest issue with flooding in Singapore?
@Nick O'Brien To your question Nick, perhaps I would point to you a recent occurrence in Singapore's Bishan -Ang Mo Kio Park which sets a new benchmark in flooding prevention efforts, it is a sophisticated showcase of a holistic approach where several issues can be tackled at the same time. https://www.smartcitiesdive.com/ex/sustainablecitiescollective/sustainability-lesson-singapore-preventing-floods/129486/
In 2020 June, in the city (please see the photos: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/flash-floods-singapore-heavy-rain-weather-bedok-12861442) I think the biggest issue is commuting from place to place, it is totally inconvenient, and vehicles driving through flooded streets or people wading in knee-deep flood waters.
@Nick O'Brien Does CFlood have a website and/or social media sites? I wanna show it to some partners who expressed their interest in your project.
Hey @Zsolt Bugarszki we are working on that as we speak! Will launch soon and will send on the link when we do. In the mean time feel free to pass on my details nick@cflood.com :)
