Nigerian Breweries Plc is the first and largest brewing company in Nigeria and was established in 1946. The company now has 9 fully operational breweries from which its high-quality products are produced and distributed to all parts of Nigeria. The company also has an export business that dates back to 1986, the current export destinations are the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, United States of America, Canada, some parts of Africa and parts of the Middle East and Asia. As at 31st December, 2019, the company had a market capitalization of approximately 472 billion naira (1.2 billion US dollars), making it one of the largest companies in Nigeria by market capitalization.
Nigerian Breweries Plc is a socially responsible corporate organization with a good track record of corporate social initiatives. The Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility is driven by a vision to always “Winning with Nigeria”. Over the years, NB Plc has been involved in supporting the national development aspirations in line with its vision.
The company has contributed through their corporate social investments in the areas of education, the environment, water, youth empowerment, talent development and sports.
In 1994, an education trust fund was established with a take-off grant of 100 million naira (which was 4.47 million US dollars in that year). This trust fund was created to take part I the funding of educational and research in institutions of higher learning in an effort to encourage academic excellence in Nigeria. Children of employees could take part in its secondary or university scholarship programs.
The company is the foremost sponsor of sports in the country with sponsorship covering football, tennis, cycling, chess, golf, dart and sailing. Their aim to encourage Nigerian sportsmen and women to take part in national and international sport events and also to boost the sport profile of the country.
The company has also contributed towards building several solar powered boreholes, commissioning independent street lights and constructing bus shelters across Nigeria. It is also interested in the development of leadership, musical and movie talents through various programs.

Nigerian Breweries’ stakeholder has a mutual influence alongside the company, so it falls under stage three. The company has a corporate affairs department that manage business’ relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders' group. In regards to the company’s transparency, the relationship between the company and the public are quite good. There was a rumor in 2017 about the company’s bribery and corruption but the company dealt with the situation. They fall under stage two in the case of transparency.
In conclusion, Nigerian Breweries is an environmental-friendly organization with six important focus areas in: protecting water resources, reducing CO2 emissions, sourcing sustainably, advocating responsible consumption, promoting health and safety, growing with communities.
